Google doodle today: Saudi Arabia National Day 2016

Carved into the sandstone walls of northwestern Saudi Arabia stands Mada'in Saleh, one of the modern world’s most breathtaking historical landmarks. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mada'in Saleh has survived for two thousand years, preserved by the dry desert air, giving modern archaeologists and tourists a chance to behold its majesty. Today’s Doodle depicts Mada'in Saleh’s largest tomb Qasr al Farid (“the Lonely Castle”.) Carved from the top down, the most impressive of the site’s 131 rock-cut monumental tombs stands four stories tall, mysteriously unfinished and strikingly alone along a crucial ancient trade route that linked the region’s main cultural centers. Mada'in Saleh stands as a rich part of the country’s national heritage, celebrated today in honor of Saudi Arabia National Day. *** Name of doodle: Saudi Arabia National Day 2016 This doodle was shown: 23.09.2016 Countries, in which doodle was shown: Saudi Arabia Keyword for this doodle: اليوم الوطني للمملكة العربية السعودية Link to doodle image: http://ift.tt/2cVm8Ih
