According to the agency "RIA Novosti" with reference to the head of the press service of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia Ashot Aharonian, the police opened fire on the entrenched supporters of opposition leader Zhirayr Sefilyan. As a result of a law enforcement officer is killed.

In his Facebook Aharonian said that the victim was a police officer in the car 350-400 meters from the building.

Publication PanArmenian reported that before the shootout to occupied buildings were moved additional forces of police, including several armored vehicles.

Earlier, the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia presented an ultimatum to the armed group . Its members have offered to lay down their arms and surrender. In case of failure of the security services threatened to open fire without warning and disarm any armed person.

On the eve of Yerevan police stifled a protest and dispersed the demonstrators in the area of the captured buildings. Among those detained was in including the deputy chairman of the opposition "Heritage" party Armen Martirosyan placed in a temporary detention facility. The members of the armed group "Sasna tsrer" captured department patrol in Yerevan on the morning of July 17th. As a result of the incident killed one police officer, six other law enforcement officers were injured. Initially, the attackers demanded the release from prison party to the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, Zhirayr Sefilyan, who is suspected of illegal acquisition and possession of weapons. Later they expressed demand the resignation of President Serzh Sargsyan.
